A comprehensive guide to using the public bus system in Grand Cayman — including routes, fares, schedules and practical tips.
Grand Cayman has a reasonably well-developed public mini-bus system operating seven days a week. While it is not a large-scale city network with fixed timetables, it provides an affordable and practical way to travel between districts, particularly along the island’s main roads.
The system consists of privately operated minibuses that run along fixed routes connecting all districts of Grand Cayman.
All routes begin and end at the bus depot in central George Town, which serves as the main transport hub. A Public Transport Inspector is typically on duty there from 7am–7pm (Monday–Friday, excluding public holidays).
Although there are approximately 125 designated bus stops and shelters, the most common way to board is simply to wave down a bus along its route. If a driver beeps at you, they are checking whether you would like to board.
Before getting on, confirm with the driver that the bus is travelling to your intended destination.
To exit the bus, inform the driver where you would like to get off.

While the bus system is generally reliable along main corridors, particularly between George Town and Seven Mile Beach, service to more distant areas such as North Side and East End may be less predictable.
There have been reports that buses travelling toward Bodden Town and Frank Sound may occasionally turn back to George Town rather than continuing around the island if passenger numbers are low. If you are travelling to or from more remote districts — especially later in the afternoon — consider having a backup transport option.
The public bus operates as a route-based system and is not designed for door-to-door service.
While drivers may occasionally assist with luggage, minibuses may not have adequate space for portable wheelchairs or passengers requiring specialised mobility support. Drivers may also be unable to leave the vehicle at every stop to assist passengers.
For travellers with mobility limitations, taxis — including wheelchair-accessible vehicles — are generally recommended for a more comfortable and practical experience.
